Nestle Partners with Xiaomi to Provide Seniors with Better N
A digital strategic cooperation conference themed "Health for Future" was held on May 16 to announce a cooperation between Swiss food and nutrition giant Nestle and technology firm Xiaomi to better support health through technology.
The cooperation aims to combine a scientific method to evaluate dietary intake with smart technology so as to help Chinese consumers improve their diets and bring concrete benefits to their health.
According to the Global Burden of Disease Study 2016, dietary inadequacies are the number one risk to the health of Chinese people, especially those who are middle-aged and older.
The collaboration between Nestle Yiyang, a nutrition product series designed for consumers aged over 50, and MIUI will pay attention to supporting health through technology and exploring digital nutrition to tap the increasing demands from the ageing population in the country.
Giardini Angelo, head of Dairy, Ice-Cream and Industrial at Great China Region, said that Nestle is preparing to integrate its experience and achievements in scientific research into the field of nutrition with modern technology to help middle-aged and elderly groups balance their diets and improve their overall health in a convenient way.
Li Weixing, vice-president of , said that this cooperation is one of MIUI's attempts to meet the diverse needs of consumers. MIUI will use its own advantages in product clusters and strong technical capabilities to provide the right services at the right time and the right place.
He also expected that both parties could improve consumer services to a new level through the integration of nutritional health and intelligent technology.
Building an Intelligent Nutrition, Health Platform
After nearly one year of efforts from both teams, the Nestle Yiyang & MIUI intelligent nutrition and health platform was showcased at the conference.
The platform allows its users to click and input their daily meal intake and import data about their weight, blood pressure, sleep and exercise through MIUI's smart wearable devices.
Then, by using big data analytics and scientific algorithms, the platform will generate nutrition reports according to the individual's health and give customized diet suggestions for users.
According to the data of 320,000 users that the platform has gathered to date, a first People's Dietary Nutrition and Health Report was published on the site, showing that the variety of daily food intake per capita is far below standard recommendations.
Nestle Yiyang and MIUI hope that this report will increase public awareness about the importance of a balanced diet and good nutrition.
Internet Plus Nutritional Health
Researchers from the National Institute for Nutrition and Health of Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Yu Kai, a Ph.D. of Nestle Research Center, and iHealth's Vice-President Guo Yang attended the conference and delivered speeches.
"Although the population aging brings a severe challenge to Chinese society, the aging process is not determined only by age. We should distinguish between biological age and real age and use advanced Internet technology to improve people’s diets," said Yu.
Participants hope that with the development of the Healthy China Initiative, the powerful combination of Nestle Yiyang and MIUI will encourage the popularization of the Internet Plus Nutritional Health Model, so as to provide people with smarter and higher-quality products.
